Fall 2019 - Present: Funded by the NOAA Educational Partnership Program with Minority Serving Institutions (EPP/MSI), I was taken on as a CCME scholar for the duration of my master's program at TAMUCC. The fellowship covers my tuition and any research/travel expenses related to my project as well as a monthly stipend. Through the program, I have the opportunities to attend conferences, complete a Core Competency Course, and conduct a 12-week NOAA Experiential Research and Training Opportunity (NERTO). I am extremely grateful and excited to take advantage of all this experience has to offer.
Funded 2017: Under the guidance of Dr. Morgan Kelly, I was awarded funding in the amount of $2500 for supplies related to my development of a protocol for epigenetic analysis. It was a fun learning experience as I wrote the proposal myself. Securing my own funding was an achievement, but it was even more rewarding in that it came from the state Sea Grant rather than the university.
Awarded Spring 2019: The LSU Ogden Honors College awards $500 to students who submit honors thesis research proposals. The money was used to purchase reagents for completing analysis of gene expression levels in oyster tissues. I took pride in being able to secure some funding of my own, and I am grateful for the opportunities and support that the Honors College provided me during my four years at LSU.
Awarded Spring 2019: Awarded by my senior college, the College of the Coast and Environment, I was awarded $2,500 based on a personal essay and college resume. Some of the money is going towards supplies for my thesis research, and the rest helped to cover fees of my final semester as an undergraduate. Receiving this honor was an excellent reward for all of my hard work throughout my undergraduate studies.
2015-2019: A merit-based scholarship, as an entering freshman I was awarded $15,500 per year to cover tuition as well as up to $1,550 per year as compensation for work in the lab of my choice. This award gave me the opportunity to get involved in undergraduate research very early in my college career. It also alleviated much of the financial burden associated with attending school out-of-state (I am from Annapolis, Maryland).
